In April 2019 the Mayor of Nablus wrote a letter on behalf of his city extending the hand of friendship to the people of Sheffield and proposing we should embark on a process of closer ties with the aim of cementing a sister cities relationship. Since then, formal relations have developed between our universities and between many of our trade unions, with the official endorsement of Sheffield Trade Union Council. With luck we will enjoy the participation of some friends from Palestine. Wouldn’t it be great if our festival formed the frame of an announcement of cooperation between the great cities of Nablus and Sheffield?
